Prof. Tachi Advocates for Kuta Centre as Alternative to Agric College Mokwa

In a compelling address during the 12th matriculation ceremony of the Kuta study center, Prof. Muhammad Bashar Tachi, former Commissioner for Tertiary Education in Niger state, urged Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to consider establishing the Kuta study center as an alternative to the College of Agriculture in Mokwa upon its transformation into a university.
Prof. Tachi emphasized the Kuta study center’s considerable advantages, citing its strategic location in an agriculturally rich community, ample land for expansion, and proximity to the international yam and agricultural products market.
He commended the Governor’s initiative to elevate the College of Agriculture Mokwa to a university status, underlining the significant role such an institution would play in advancing the state’s agricultural ambitions.
Acknowledging the evolving landscape of global agriculture, Prof. Tachi advocated for the promotion of mechanized farming practices through the proposed University of Agriculture Mokwa.
He also called on the college’s administration to explore the introduction of Higher National Diploma (HND) programs at the Kuta center, highlighting the potential to serve over 500 diploma graduates eager to further their education without the burden of traveling to the main campus in Mokwa.
Dr. Etsu Mohammed Shaba, Acting Provost of the State College of Agriculture Mokwa, praised Prof. Tachi’s foundational role in establishing the Kuta study center.
He recognized it as the most distinguished among the college’s study centers and announced that all programs have received national accreditation, ensuring that graduates are recognized professionally.
With 64 new students enrolled—52 in Animal Health and Production Technology and 12 in Agricultural Technology—Dr. Mohammed Sani, Coordinator of the Kuta center, expressed gratitude for Prof. Tachi’s unwavering support and the contributions of part-time lecturers to the center’s success.
A’ishatu Aliyu Isma’il, representing the newly matriculated students, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the opportunities afforded by Prof. Tachi’s vision, affirming the positive impact of the study center on their educational journey.
