By Yahaya Zakka Minna

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has inaugurated the new leaders of the Niger State Development Forum at the State Liaison Office in Abuja.

He described the establishment of the Forum as a significant initiative, particularly due to its focus on the development of Niger State.

During his speech on the development plan for Niger State, Governor Umaru Bago outlined that his administration is implementing long-term, mid-term, and short-term plans spanning 50, 30, and 10 years, respectively.

He explained that these plans aim to address infrastructural deficits and other key sectors in the state.

Bago emphasized that State is endowed with abundant natural, human, and capital resources, and its development is essential. To this end, he introduced the New Niger Agenda, which he believes will foster development and enable the state to compete favorably with other states in the federation.

While congratulating the new leaders of the Forum, Governor Bago urged them to ensure that Niger State receives adequate compensation for its contributions to the establishment of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

He also called for improved job placements for Nigerlites working in federal agencies and pledged his support to the Forum, particularly its secretariat, to ensure effective service.

The new Chairman of the Niger State Development Forum, who is also the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alh. Mohammed Idris Malagi, reaffirmed his commitment to leading the Forum and vowed to work diligently to advance its goals.

He stated that the Forum, being non-political and impartial, is dedicated to the state’s development, regardless of any differences.

The Forum’s vision includes enhancing policy advisory capacity and expanding membership and collaborations.

Malagi commended the former leadership for their selflessness and dedication to service, urging all members to maintain their commitment and energy to achieve greater results.

The Co-Chairman, who is also the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Abdullahi Sabi Aliyu, expressed that there is no better time for the Forum to thrive than now, especially with the New Niger initiative. He promised to contribute his best to the Forum’s success.

Earlier, the former and founding Chairman of the Niger State Development Forum and past Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Zubairu Dada, stated that he is handing over leadership with confidence and pride, knowing that the Forum is in capable hands.

He noted that the new Chairman is a founding member who made significant contributions to the Forum’s establishment and reiterated that the new leadership will chart a bold and strategic path to support the Bago-led administration in achieving success.

Amb. Dada mentioned that the Forum, which initially included only Nigerlites in federal establishments—particularly those based in Abuja—has now expanded to include individuals on the boards of federal tertiary institutions.

He called on the Farmer Governor to provide institutional support for the Forum.
