Nigerian Red Cross Society Distributes Dignity Kits to Vulnerable Women in Niger.

As part of its humanitarian efforts, the Nigerian Red Cross Society has once again made a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable groups by distributing dignity kits designed for women of reproductive age in Niger.
The distribution took place on Monday at several locations, including the Old People’s Home, the Limawa Blind Centre, and the Bosso Estate Orphanage Home, all situated in Minna, the capital of Niger State.
The dignity kits were given to women aged 15 to 45, as this demographic typically requires such essentials. Each kit contains basic items needed for daily living, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, washing soap, detergents, bathing soap, slippers, torchlights, and reusable sanitary pads.
In an interview following the official launch of the distribution, Mrs. Halima Momoh, the Officer in Charge of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse from the Protection, Gender, and Inclusion department at the Nigerian Red Cross Headquarters in Abuja, shared that the Red Cross has branches in all 36 states of Nigeria.
Currently, they are assessing several branches and particularly focusing on six states for this project. The aim is to evaluate the accessibility of these branches for people with disabilities and those facing various vulnerabilities.
Mrs. Momoh emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating, “We want to ensure that people with disabilities are included in our programming and interventions to achieve a holistic approach in our activities.”
The targeted states for the dignity kit distribution are Kogi, Kaduna, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, and Plateau, with 110 kits allocated for people with disabilities within childbearing age in each state.
This initiative is part of the Red Cross’s ongoing efforts to manage expectations and ensure inclusivity in all their activities.
According to Mrs. Momoh, the goal of reaching out to people with vulnerabilities and disabilities is to ensure that the items provided are genuinely needed and can be utilized effectively.
She also mentioned that the Society plans to conduct post-distribution monitoring to assess how well the items are being used and to gather feedback on their impact.
One of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Red Cross for the assistance and promised to use the items judiciously.
