Explosion Rocks Sabon Pegi, Mashegu Local Government Area, Niger State.

On January 26, 2025, at approximately 7:30 AM, an explosive incident occurred in Sabon Pegi, Mashegu LGA, Niger State, involving a Nakiya explosive improperly stored in a rented apartment by local artisan miner Yushehu.
The rented accommodation, situated behind the central mosque in Sabon Pegi, was intended for his workers, while Yushehu himself resides in New Bussa.
The explosion tragically resulted in the loss of three lives—a boy, a man, and a woman—while dozens of individuals sustained injuries.
Reports indicate that over 40 structures, including several parked vehicles, were affected.
Local emergency teams, including NSEMA desk officers from Mashegu and Borgu LGAs, are currently on-site conducting a thorough assessment and coordinating rescue operations.
The Commissioner of Police for Niger State, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, has launched an investigation into the incident and dispatched the EOD-CBRN unit for further evaluation; however, Yushehu remains at large.
As of now, normalcy has been restored in the community, and monitoring efforts continue to ensure the safety of residents.
The Director General of NSEMA confirmed the receipt of this report and addressed the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
