NUT urged Gov. Bago to aporoves 40 – 65 years retirement age for teachers in Niger.

It has been observed that delay on prompt payment of salaries and non implementation of promotion as well as increment of primary and post primary schools teachers are factors hindering effective performance of teachers at Basic educational sector.

The state Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers Niger state council, Comrade Adamu Mohammed Akayago gave the observation at a three day leadership workshop for state wing executive Council SWEC, which took place at the Comrade Labaran Garba Multipurpose conference Hall, Tugan goro,Minna.
Comrade Adamu Akayago who was represented by his Deputy Comrade Abdulmumin Shehu, stressed that other factors include non release of executive order for the implementation of sixty five year and fourth years retirement age for both primary and secondary school teachers among others.
He described the workshop as timely, adding it will give teachers an opportunity to acquire the rudiment of leadership and real modern technique of impacting knowledge to pupils at primary and secondary school levels in the country.According to him, training and retraining of teachers at this period of time would help greatly in building intellectual capacity of members with a view of understanding the dynamics and challenges facing the Union leadership.
He then charged the coordinator of the training programme to sustain the programme and appealed to participants to pay attention to the presentations so as to achieve the set goals.
Speaking with Newsman after the first session of the workshop, the National coordinator of the programme, Mr Solomon . Idelowowa said the programme which have commenced few years ago has took place in about twenty five state’s, aimed at reawakening the consciousness of teachers in all aspect of leadership role and rudiment of teaching skills for effective services delivery.In his remarks, a Veteran stakeholder, Comrade Labaran Garba, expressed happiness and satisfaction for the resuscitation of the training programme which according to him will assist in changing teachers narrative in the aspect of their teaching career.
