Miyetti Allah to begin sensitisation against use of drugs among pastoralists, proliferation of small arms

By : Our Correspondent.

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), says it will begin sensitisation of against the use of illicit drugs among it’s youths and proliferation of small arms within pastoral community to curb insecurity in the country.

President of MACBAN, Alhaji Baba Othman Ngelzarma, said this during a press conference immediately after an emergency National executive council meeting held in Paiko local government of Niger state.

He said the association deliberated extensively on the present security situation bedeviling the country and resolved to fish out bad eggs among pastoralist fold.

“To address the role we play as leaders and parents in shaving the behavior of our youths against all form of crimes and criminality bedeviling the country.

” We have deliberated extensively on how to fish out bad eggs among pastoralists and  sensitise them against use of drugs, proliferation of small arms and light weapons,” he said.

He said the association would soon converge its states executives to come up with ways to complement government efforts to check youth restiveness among pastoralist to curtail insecurity.

He added that to also complement Federal government efforts in ensuring food security, the association had established a business arm called ” MACBAN Concept and Solution.

Ngelgarma said the effort was to give members of the association a new representation as a business rather than a cultural body.

He said the association would invite critical stakeholders such as traders from major markets in the country to work with its members to proffer solution to food crisis in the country.

He said the association after consultation, discovered that the current food crisis was not as a result of exchange rate, but due to insecurity, transportation and hoarding of commodities.

Ngelgarma, however, appreciated the military and other security agencies in ensuring peace and urged them to always observe rules of engagement in discharging their onerous duty of safeguarding unity and wellbeing of citizens.

He, however, alleged the rate military operation unit and vigilante in some states were looting and killing cows without just cause citing recent cases in Giwa local government area of Kaduna.

He said over 15,000 pastoralist have been killed as a result of farmers/herders crisis and over 4 million cattle have been lost to cattle rustling and banditry from 2014 to date.
