Niger govt. hands over construction of 45 kms Bida ring road to contractor
The Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development, on Wednesday officially handed over construction of the 45 kms Bida Ring Road to it’s contractors, Arab contractors.
At the event in Bida, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Malam Sulieman Umar said that this has demonstrated the commitment of the Gov Umar Bago’s urban renewal drive.
He said the project with various intersections, would be dual carriage to enable it ease traffic within the town especially by heavy duty trucks.
The Commissioner commended the Governor for showing enough commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises, adding that the project would create jobs and boost the economy of the area.
In his remarks, the Deputy Director, Civil Engineering Services in the Ministry, Engr. Kudu Madami expressed confidence in the ability of the contractors to deliver, stating that the formal handling over of the documents to them has signaled the commencement of the project.
Madami said the contract would be for a period of thirty months.
Also speaking, Alhaji Baba Shaba, Chairman, Bida Local government, noted that the council and the people of the area would give all necessary support to the contractors to ensure the success of the project.
Shaba expressed joy that the project when completed would boost commercial activities in Bida, which will as well add to the beauty of the ancient town.
On his Part, the Managing Director of Arab contractors, Engr. Mohammed El-Darous promised to deliver the project as stipulated, nothing that the firm is quality oriented.
It would be recalled that Prior to the handing over, the team visited the life camp and operational base of the contractors.
