TASKS FORCE ON BAN ON HEAVY DUTY VEHICLES ALONG MINNA -BIDA ROAD, NOW MONEY MAKING VENTURE.. Says Motorist.
The Task Force committee set up by the State government to ensure the strict compliance of the ban on heavy duty vehicles plying Bida /Minna road are been alleged of extorting money from drivers plying the road.
Our correspondent in an interview with some of the drivers who are victim disclosed that they were forced to pay twenty to thirty thousands naira at Gidan Kwano check point before getting access to Minna.
The Drivers who didn’t want their names made Public complained that no receipt is issued to them after the payment.
The secretary to Niger state Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane when contacted,explained that the State Government is not aware of the ugly development and causion Driver’s not to pay anything to the Task Force adding that they are only mandated to enforce the ban and not to collect money from motorist.
Ahmed Matene further mentioned that government would set up a team to investigate the matter and who so ever is found wanting will face the full wrath of the law.
Recalled that the state government some years ago when it commences rehabilitation of Minna / Bida road,heavy duty vehicles were ban from plying the road to allow the Construction Company complete the rehabilitation work on agreed time, hence government constitutes the Task Force to enforce ban on heavy duty/articulated vehicles plying the road, which have now turn to a money making venture.
