Idris Receives Vanguard 2026 Image Maker Award, Cites Transparency, Engagement, and Governance as Keys to Building Public Trust

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of public communication, rooted in truth, transparency, and accountability, to build public trust in governance.
He made this statement over the weekend after receiving the Image Maker Award 2026, presented by Vanguard Media Limited, publishers of Vanguard Newspapers.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant (Media), Rabiu Ibrahim, Alhaji Mohammed Idris called the award a sign of his dedication to fostering trust and creating a broader communication ecosystem that supports the Federal Government’s reform efforts, adding, “This has been crucial in bridging the gap between governance and public perception.”
Idris, who accepted the award at a well-organized ceremony on Friday at Eko Hotel & Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, said the recognition came at a critical time for Nigeria, which is undergoing bold reforms and efforts to reposition the country for sustainable growth.
“This award is a testament to the trust we strive to build with every Nigerian. Communication is at the heart of governance, and it must foster confidence, unity, and hope. Communication should not only inform but also build trust.
The award is not an endpoint, but a call to do more for the Nigerian people,” he explained.
He emphasized the importance of transparency and regular engagement with the public and media, noting that fostering open dialogue has been essential in narrowing the gap between governance and the populace.
The Minister also stressed the importance of timely, accurate information on national security issues, highlighting ongoing cooperation with security agencies and media partners to keep the public calm and reinforce confidence in government efforts.
“As we navigate major policy shifts—including the removal of fuel subsidies, foreign exchange reforms, and fiscal restructuring—our approach has centered on clarity, consistency, and credibility. We are committed to ensuring that government decisions are communicated with empathy and responsibility, always emphasizing their long-term benefits for all Nigerians,” Idris said.
The award ceremony was attended by prominent Nigerians, including the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Peter Mbah; the Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Agbu Kefas; the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim; the Bishop of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah; and many others.
