Igbo Community Mourns the Death of Ebere Chukwu Hope, who was killed near Uni Jos during Youths restiveness.

By Yakubu Busari

The Igbo community residents in Plateau State are mourning the tragic death of Mr. Ebere Chukwu Hope, an indigene of Urualla in Imo State, who was killed near the University of Jos. The community calls on authorities to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a statement issued by Chief Michael Ibeanu, Secretary General of the Igbo Community Association in Jos, it was reported that Mr. Hope was attacked and murdered on April 1, 2026, while riding a Keke-Napep along Bauchi Road. The attack occurred during the Jos crises when youths wielding stones and weapons stopped him along his route.

HRH Chief Sam Igwe Achi, an Igbo leader, confirmed that Mr. Hope was physically assaulted and killed at the scene by miscreants.

The Igbo Community Association in Jos North, under Chief Chidi Onah, mourns the sudden loss of Mr. Hope, whose body has been placed at the Evangelical Teaching Hospital Mortuary in Jos.

The community urges authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident and arrest those responsible for this senseless act. Ongoing concerns persist about violent clashes in Jos North LGA since the April 1 unrest, including the loss of 30 lives during the Angwan Rukuba incident.

The community also highlights insecurity in Jos and across Nigeria, emphasizing the need for stronger law enforcement and public safety measures. They appeal to Governor Caleb Mutfwang for support in funding Mr. Hope’s burial, as his family cannot afford the costs in Imo State.

Among recent violence victims is Ebubechukwu Ihionu from Urualla, Ideato North LGA, Imo State, who was killed during the curfew relaxation on April 1 at Faringada/Katako junction near the University of Jos. His body is at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital mortuary.

The Igbo community in Jos extends its sympathy to the people of Plateau State and calls on all relevant agencies—Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, NEMA, and others—to include these victims in their records and efforts to address terrorism and violence. The community hopes for decisive action to end these tragic losses.
