Troops Successfully Thwart Terrorist Attacks in Niger, Neutralizing Dozens of Militants

The Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) has achieved a significant victory against terrorist groups in Niger, successfully intercepting and neutralizing a large contingent of militants on July 22, 2025. This operation transpired in the Babban Doka area of Maru Local Government in Zamfara State as the terrorists advanced towards the communities of Ragada and Warari in Rijau Local Government Area.
In a statement released by Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer for OPFY, the troops, comprised of units from both the Mariga and Zuru axes, initiated a coordinated offensive near Inana Village in Rijau LGA. Engaging in a fierce firefight, ground forces were supported by the Air Component of OPFY, which provided essential intelligence, surveillance, and air strikes to enhance the effectiveness of the assault.
The operation resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists and the recovery of substantial military equipment. Among the recovered items were two AK-47 rifles, one magazine containing five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a total of 18 motorcycles primarily used by the insurgents for mobility.
The successful joint operation effectively thwarted the terrorists’ plans to destabilize the region and engage in livestock rustling.
Tragically, the firefight resulted in the loss of one soldier, who was fatally injured while displaying commendable bravery during the operation.
Captain Adewusi reaffirmed OPFY’s commitment to its mandate of eradicating terrorism and criminal activities in the North West and parts of the North Central region.
“Our resolve remains unwavering in our mission to secure the safety of communities and restore peace,” stated Adewusi. “We call upon the public to continue providing vital information that can aid our ongoing operations against these criminal elements.”
In a separate development, the Nigerian Army is intensifying its training for troops to enhance operational capacity. General Abubakar emphasized the necessity of robust collaboration among security forces to effectively curb the prevailing insecurity in the region.
The recent success of OPFY underscores the critical importance of coordinated efforts in the fight against terrorism, aiming to bring lasting peace and stability to the affected regions.
