Tragic Armed Robbery Leads to Student’s Death in IBBU Lapai

In the early hours of June 23, 2025, at approximately 3:00 AM, reports emerged of a violent attack on a student lodge in the Ndakitabu area of Lapai.
Eyewitnesses indicated that the incident occurred around 2:30 AM when a group of assailants targeted the residence. Although police operatives from the Lapai Division responded promptly, the suspects managed to flee the scene.
During the assault, a student identified as Jafar, a 300-level Education major in the Faculty of Arts, sustained a severe stab wound to the neck. He was immediately transported to the General Hospital in Lapai but tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
In reaction to the incident, frustrated students blocked the Agaie-Lapai road, demanding justice and heightened security measures.
SP Wasiu A. Abiodun, the Public Relations Officer for the Niger State Police Command, confirmed via a telephone interview that tactical teams have been dispatched to the area to restore order.
He assured the public that a thorough investigation into this grievous crime is underway, and the Commissioner of Police has mandated that those responsible be apprehended and held accountable.
