Niger state Govt, AGRA partner trains 1,000 women, youths on livestock production.
Niger state Ministries for Agriculture and Livestock and Fisheries in partnership with AGRA, has train 1,000 youths on livestock production to boost animal farming in the state.
The Permanent Secretary, Niger state Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Mr Jonathan Wasa, disclosed this during thelivestock entrepreneurship training for youths across Niger state.
Wasa, who was represented by Abbas Mohammed, Director, Animal Production in the ministry, said the training was in partnership with AGRA.
He disclosed that fifty beneficiaries would be trained in the first phase with two selected from each of the 25 local government areas of the state.
“We decided to synergies with AGRA to train our women and youths so as to change their mindsets in reariing animals in order to improve livestock production in the state.
“The aims is to transform our food system and support smallholder farmers as well as make our youths self-reliant.
He added that the essence of the training was for beneficiaries to get acquainted to the realities on ground.
He disclosed that beneficiaries would be empowered financially and given basic tools and materials to start up livestock production.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary Niger state Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Matthew Ahmed, advised the beneficiaries to acquire skills on livestock production that would be beneficial to them.
Also speaking, Mr Godswill Aguiyi, Programme Officer of AGRA in Niger, advised beneficiaries to see the training as an opportunity to venture into business and enhance agricultural sector
He added that the aim of the training was to transform the food system, support smallholder farmers and help the youths become self-reliance.
The training covered topics such as livestock production economics, business development and pasture development.
