Tragic Incident in Edo State: Mob Violence Claims Lives of Northern Travellers.

In a harrowing incident in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi, Edo State, at least 16 travelers from Northern Nigeria lost their lives after being erroneously labeled as kidnappers.
The victims, primarily Hausa hunters, were traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano to celebrate the Sallah festivities when they were intercepted by members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes on Thursday at approximately 1:30 PM.
Reports suggest that a false alarm was raised, leading to a violent backlash from an irate mob.
Eyewitness accounts described a brutal scene where the mob not only attacked the travelers but also set their vehicle ablaze, tragically leaving some bodies trapped inside.
Survivors were reportedly removed on wheelbarrows and subjected to further violence. While security forces eventually responded to the situation, it was too late to prevent the fatalities.
Following the incident, authorities confirmed the arrest of five individuals suspected of involvement in the violence.
In response to the tragedy, the Hausa community in Uromi convened an emergency meeting to address the situation and work towards preventing any future reprisals.
Edo State Police Command spokesperson, Moses Joel Yamu, stated that he is currently gathering more information about the incident and will provide updates as soon as possible.
