Fubara Hosts Meeting to Address Rivers Assembly Affairs.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has summoned members of the House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, for an important meeting scheduled for Monday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The invitation, detailed in a letter from the office of the Secretary to the State Government dated March 7, 2025, acknowledges the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that reinstated the Amaewhule-led assembly.
The letter also outlines Fubara’s intention to convene the lawmakers to discuss critical issues, including securing a suitable location for assembly sessions and addressing pending remuneration and allowances for the legislators.
On February 28, the Supreme Court upheld a federal high court judgment that prohibited the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation from disbursing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers State.
This ruling has significant implications for the Amaewhule faction, which remains loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State.
The apex court mandated that the Amaewhule faction and other elected members of the House resume their sessions, while also nullifying the local government elections held in Rivers State on October 5, 2024.
Following this decision, the lawmakers returned to their duties and have formally requested the governor to submit the 2025 appropriations bill for their consideration.
Additionally, they have summoned officials of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to address concerns regarding alleged financial misappropriation.
Governor Fubara’s invitation is perceived as a constructive move towards resolving the ongoing crisis within the Rivers Assembly, which has persisted since 2023.
