N- HYPPADEC to distribute N2bn starter packs to 6,000 youths

National Hydro-electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission N-HYPPADEC has concluded plans to distribute starter packs worth N2 billion to 6,000 youths in its six first catchment states.
The Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa made the disclosure at a Stakeholders’ Youth Transformation Programme meeting held at its headquarters in Minna on Thursday.
He said that the meeting was aimed at ensuring the seamless distribution of the items.
Represented by the Assistant Director, Finance, Dr Bala Mohammed, the Managing Director said that due to the sensitivity of youths as leaders of tomorrow, they should be engaged in various skills acquisition programmes to be self-reliant.
He sad that this would go a long way in cushioning the effects of the economic hardship being experienced by creating job opportunities.
Sadiq-Yelwa added that the increased cost of items necessitated the review of the contract.
According to him, the commission has received 95 per cent of the items for onward distribution to the youths soon.
He emphasized that the process for the distribution ceremony was at the completion stage.
They include trainees’ registration with the CAC at a 50 per cent subsidy.
The MD said that the certificates were almost ready through NDE and MITI, while guarantors forms have been distributed to ensure the utilization of the items as well as the.completion of payments to the contractors.
The Rector, Minna Institute of Technology and Innovation MITI, Dr Nana Ibrahim, whose institute trained the Niger trainees, explained that only committed and dedicated participants would be certified as beneficiaries
Also, the ALGON Secretary and Chairman of Rafi Local Government, Alhaji Shuaibu Katako commended the unpresidented performance of the N-HYPPADEC in various areas of endeavour.
He called for proper synergy with the local councils for effective communication and assured of their support for the exercise to succeed.

According to the communique issued at the end of the meeting, the participants appreciated the commission for the programme.
They called for more enlightenment, urging the security agencies to monitor the beneficiaries.
The benefiting states include: Kebbi, Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Benue and Plateau for the first batch of the distribution.(NAN)
