Minna Court Issues Bench Warrant against the MD of First Bank and UBA PLC.
Justice Balkisu Gambo of the Niger State High Court six minna has ordered the arrest of the Managing Directors of First Bank and United Bank for Africa (UBA) Mr Adesola Kazeem Adedutan and Oliver Alawuba over alleged tax evasion
between the Banks and the Niger state Government through the State Revenue Service.
According to the Judge, Justice Balkisu,the issuance of the bench warrants for the arrest of the Managing Directors of the two Commercial Banks followed their refusal to appear before the Court despite several Sermons.
Earlier the Counsel to the complainant Mohammed Ndayako SAN in his submission,told the court that he had served the defendant with sermon through their counsel and wonder as why they did not appear and no reason was giving either by their counsel for not appearing.
Ndayako( SAN )then pray to the Court to issue a bench warrant of arrest to the defendant in accordence with the law.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Balkisu Gambo however adjourned the matter to the nineteenth of September 2024 for the arraignment of the Managing Directors of First Bank and that of the United Bank for Africa plc
In another development, the matter on the tax evasion involving Fidelity Bank is in the process of resolution and Counsels in the matter pleaded with the Court for a another date to enable them complete their discussions.
Similarly, Justice Balkisu Gambo has fixed the nineteenth of September 2024 for settlement or subsequent arraignment of the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Plc
In a separate interview Mohammed Ndayako,said “the defendant were charged on the offences of tax avasion by the Niger state government and the state government is determine to make sure that the two banks settle the particuler aspect of tax the banks owe the state government since two thousand and five(2005) to twenty and ten(2010) respectively.
