U.S. Assumes Temporary Control of Venezuela Amid Political Transition
Following the removal of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States will temporarily oversee Venezuela’s affairs until a safe and orderly transition is achieved.
Trump stated that Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has been sworn in as acting president and has agreed to collaborate with U.S. officials. “She had a long conversation with Marco Rubio and agreed to work with us,” Trump said. “She had little choice in the matter.”
The President highlighted that this move will enable American oil companies to access Venezuela’s extensive reserves. “We’re going to have our major U.S. oil companies—some of the largest in the world—invest billions to restore operations and production in Venezuela,” he explained, emphasizing the potential implications for the global energy market.
Trump also emphasized that U.S. oversight will continue only until a proper and stable political transition occurs in the country.
