House Releases Four Tax Acts to Clear Confusions, Warns Against Unauthorised Versions

The House of Representatives has made public four tax reform Acts signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in response to concerns about alleged alterations and unauthorised versions circulating online.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, stated that the Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the Acts, including presidential assent pages, were released to “eliminate doubt, restore clarity, and protect the sanctity of the legislative record.”

Abbas explained that the release was prompted by a report from a vigilant Honourable Member who identified discrepancies in circulating versions of the tax laws and formally raised the issue on a point of privilege.

Acting swiftly, the Speaker ordered internal verification and the immediate release of the certified Acts.

In collaboration with Senate President Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Abbas directed that only the certified copies issued by the National Assembly be recognized as authentic. “There is no ambiguity about what constitutes the law,” he said.

The four Acts released are:

Nigeria Tax Act, 2025: https://bit.ly/NGRTaxAct2025

Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025: https://bit.ly/TaxAdminAct2025

Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025: https://bit.ly/NRSAct2025

Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act, 2025: https://bit.ly/JRBNAct2025

Abbas stated that the legislation “constitutes the backbone of Nigeria’s contemporary tax reform architecture, designed to modernize revenue administration, improve compliance, reduce inefficiencies, eliminate duplications, and strengthen fiscal coordination across the federation.”

He warned Nigerians and institutions to ignore any versions not certified by the National Assembly, emphasizing: “Members of the public, institutions, professionals, and stakeholders are therefore advised to discountenance any other documents or versions in circulation that are not certified by the National Assembly, as such materials do not form part of the official legislative record.”

The Clerk to the National Assembly has coordinated with the Federal Government Printing Press to ensure accuracy and consistency. Hard copies have been distributed to all lawmakers and are available to the public for official reference.

Abbas also confirmed that an ad hoc committee, chaired by Rt. Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara, is investigating the circulation of unauthorised versions and will recommend measures to prevent this from happening again.

He reaffirmed the House’s dedication to transparency, constitutionalism, and the rule of law: “The National Assembly is an institution built on records, procedure, and institutional memory.

Every Bill, every amendment, and every Act follows a traceable constitutional and parliamentary pathway. Once a law is passed and assented to, its integrity is maintained through certification and custody by the legislature.”
