Gunmen Attack Ngige’s Convoy in Anambra, Resulting in One Fatality and Multiple Injuries
Unidentified gunmen targeted the convoy of former Anambra State Governor Dr. Chris Ngige on Wednesday along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area, causing one death and injuring several others.
Sources indicate that the assailants, dressed in police and military uniforms, opened fire on the lead vehicle, killing a police officer and stealing his rifle and uniform.
A woman recording the incident with her mobile phone was also shot dead at the scene.
Additionally, a shop owner who rushed outside to observe the commotion was struck by gunfire and sustained serious injuries. He has lost significant blood but is scheduled for surgery to remove bullet fragments and is currently in stable condition.
The convoy’s escort leader, also wounded by gunfire, has undergone surgery and is expected to recover fully. The lead vehicle was heavily damaged by gunfire.
At the time of the attack, Dr. Ngige was not in the convoy. His former press secretary, Mr. Fred Chukwuelobe, confirmed the incident and stated that Ngige had assured that steps are being taken to ensure medical care for the injured and had extended condolences to the family of the woman killed while recording
