Police and Military Respond to Armed Attack at St. Mary’s Private Secondary School in Papiri
The Niger State Police Command confirmed that armed bandits in the early hours of today attacked St. Mary’s Private (Catholic) Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, abducting an unspecified number of students from the school hostel.
In response, police tactical units, military personnel, and other security agencies have been deployed to the scene to conduct search operations in the nearby forests, aiming to rescue the students safely.
SP W. A Abiodun, Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Ellema, emphasized the force’s dedication to rescuing the students unharmed. He urged the public to remain calm and support the ongoing security efforts.
The police also assured that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
Furthermore, the police indicated that the school management could face scrutiny for allegedly continuing academic activities despite a statewide directive to close schools in the region due to security concerns.
