Tragic Tanker Explosion Claims Lives in Essa, Katcha LGA

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has expressed profound condolences to the residents of Essa in the Katcha local government area following a devastating tanker explosion that resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries.
In a statement delivered through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago described the incident as “worrisome, unfortunate, and pathetic.” He remarked, “This is yet another painful, difficult, and tragic situation for the people and the state government.”
The governor extended his prayers for the souls of those who lost their lives in the explosion and wished for a swift recovery for the injured. He expressed concern over the persistent behavior of individuals approaching fallen tankers to collect fuel, despite ongoing awareness efforts highlighting the dangers associated with such actions.
Governor Bago urged the community to prioritize their safety and value their lives in all circumstances. He also commended the prompt response of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), assuring that the state government will work with relevant ministries and departments to provide necessary support.
The explosion in the Essa community reportedly occurred as people attempted to scoop fuel from the fallen tanker. Victims have been transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Bida for medical treatment.
The state government is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to preventing such incidents in the future.
