Residents near the Kaduna River Basin are advised that Shiroro Dam will discharge excess water during the 2025 Wet Season.
By Yahaya Zakka Minna.
In light of significant rainfall and rising water levels, residents and stakeholders in the Kaduna River Basin are urged to exercise caution. Recent hydrological assessments at the Shiroro Dam reference point indicate a notable increase in reservoir levels due to extended rainfall this wet season.
To ensure the structural integrity of the dam, it will be necessary to discharge excess water, which could pose risks for those living and working near the river.
While the anticipated rainfall offers opportunities for water resource management, it is critical that safety measures are prioritized at all levels.
All individuals engaged in water-related activities within the basin are strongly advised to remain vigilant during this period. The North South Power Company Limited, operators of the Shiroro Hydroelectric Plant, commit to implementing measures aimed at minimizing flood risks, acknowledging their potential adverse effects on the socio-economic well-being of the community.
For further updates and safety strategies, residents are encouraged to stay informed.
Signed,
MANAGEMENT.
