9mobile Rebrands as T2 in Strategic Move to Strengthen Market Position.
By Our Correspondent.
Nigerian telecom operator 9mobile, formerly known as Etisalat, officially unveiled its new brand identity as T2. The announcement took place during a corporate event titled “Tech Meets Tenacity” at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.
CEO Obafemi Banigbe highlighted that the rebranding is designed to redefine the company’s positioning in Nigeria’s telecom sector, enabling T2 to compete more vigorously in the industry. “Our new identity reflects our commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction,” Banigbe stated.
The launch event saw participation from key industry stakeholders, including Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, and featured performances by notable entertainers, hosted by Darey Art Alade.
The transition from Etisalat Nigeria to 9mobile and now T2 marks a significant chapter in the company’s history. Once boasting over 22 million subscribers, the operator faced financial difficulties that dwindled its active users to approximately 3.2 million as of January 2025.
In a bid to enhance service quality and expand coverage, T2 recently entered a national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria.
The rebranding to T2 is part of a comprehensive strategy to stabilize operations, attract new customers, and maintain competitiveness within Nigeria’s rapidly evolving telecommunications market.
