NLC Niger State Council Issues Resolute Communiqué Following Emergency SEC Meeting

In a significant meeting held thursday, 24 /July/ 2024, the State Emergency Executive Council (SEC) of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Niger State Council, convened to address pressing issues affecting workers in the state.

The council’s resolutions reflect a commitment to both the welfare of workers and the enhancement of administrative coherence within the organization.

Key among the resolutions was an expression of appreciation towards the Niger State Government for its ongoing developmental initiatives. The Council called on the Ministry of Finance and relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure the timely payment of salaries to all categories of workers.

This call underscores the importance of financial stability for the workforce in promoting overall productivity and morale.

Furthermore, the SEC unanimously endorsed the leadership of Comrade Idrees Abdulkarrem Lafene, affirming their confidence in his ability to steer the NLC until the end of the current tenure. This resolution highlights the unity and direction of the Congress, reinforcing its strategic vision.

In a significant shift in leadership roles, the SEC resolved that Comrade Salihu Mohammed Rijau would respectfully step aside from his position as Acting Secretary. Comrade Maria Musa, previously serving as an ex-officio member, has been nominated to take on the role of Acting Secretary, adhering to the organization’s constitutional provisions.

In addition, the SEC took a firm stance against the recent actions of the Acting Secretary, condemning his decision to communicate with the National Headquarters without the necessary approvals from both the State Administrative Council (SAC) and the SEC.

The council explicitly disassociated itself from this correspondence, emphasizing the importance of organizational protocol and unity.

Lastly, the SEC called on civil servants to demonstrate unwavering commitment to their duties and to support both the state government and NLC leadership in achieving positive outcomes for all stakeholders.

The resolutions were formally signed by Comrade Mariya Musa, the Acting Secretary, further solidifying the council’s collective decisions and direction moving forward.

This communiqué serves as a timely reminder of the NLC’s commitment to labor rights, productivity, and the effective governance of its leadership.
