NISTAD Foundation urges governments, stakeholders to increase investment in AI, digital skills to enhance youths employability

The NISTAD Foundation has urged governments and stakeholders to increase investment in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital skills in order to enhance employability of Nigerian youths to contribute to the Nation’s digital economy..
According to Ms. Ada Jabaru, Executive Director and CEO of the foundation.during the 10th anniversary celebration of World Youth Skills Day (WYSD), with themed “Youth Empowerment Through AI and Digital Skills” the skills are crucial for youth development, community growth, and addressing pressing
challenges such as insecurity, inadequate electricity, and limited access to healthcare.
Jabaru stated, ” This year’s theme, is a timely reminder of how much technology is changing our world and why it’s critical that young people are not left behind in the digital revolution. With AI shaping everything from how we learn to how we work, the need for digital skills has never been greater”.
“Our goal at NISTAD is to provide access to education and skills that prepare young people for today’s world of work”.
NISTAD ED also disclosed that focus is giving especially to girls and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to be part of the tech future maintaining,” We believe they can be leaders and creators in the AI space, not just consumers”.
” We believe the many challenges Nigeria and Africa is facing, such as insecurity, lack of electricity, water, and low access to health are all challenges that can be overcome or reduced with deployment of AI and digital skills.”
Recall the Nigerian government has set targets to enhance digital literacy, which aims at 70 percent digital literacy by 2027 and 95 percent by 2030.
The executive director explained that the foundation has been actively working in supporting youth development through various initiatives such as training young people in digital and AI-related skills, running women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship programs, supporting primary healthcare and education as well as connecting youth to business and job opportunities
“Through partnerships with organizations in Nigeria, Africa, the US, and the UK, NISTAD promotes inclusion, innovation, and sustainable development.” she stated.
