Peter Rufai: Legendary Super Eagles Goalkeeper Passes Away at 61
Peter Rufai, the esteemed former Super Eagles goalkeeper, has sadly passed away at the age of 61 following a prolonged illness.
Waidi Akanni, a former teammate and close associate, confirmed Rufai’s death on Thursday. The Super Eagles of Nigeria officially announced his passing on the team’s X account.
“Forever in our hearts, Dodo Mayana. We mourn the loss of legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai, a giant of Nigerian football and a champion of the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON),” the post stated. “Your legacy lives on both on and off the pitch.”
Rufai is renowned as one of Nigeria’s finest football goalkeepers.
He served as the Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper during Nigeria’s victorious campaign in the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations.
