Court Adjourns Hearing on AEDC Agreement with Kutiriko Community.

By Yahaya Zakka, Minna

The Magistrate Court in Minna has postponed a case brought by the Kutiriko and Fadikpe communities against the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to the 29th of next month for further review.

Presiding Magistrate, Hajiya Umulkatume Mohammed, stated that the adjournment allows the court to assess the progress made in fulfilling the outstanding terms of the agreement established with the Kutiriko community.

This agreement includes critical provisions such as the installation of a new transformer and the cancellation of outstanding electricity bills incurred during a seven-month blackout period experienced by the community.

Barrister Hadiza Umar, representing the community, emphasized that the adjournment facilitates additional time for AEDC to resolve the remaining terms of the agreement.

She indicated that failure to meet these terms would compel the community to present witnesses in court to substantiate their claims.

Community spokesman Alhaji Awalu Musa reported that one requirement of the agreement—installation of an armored cable to power the transformer—was completed last week. However, other commitments remain, including the provision of an additional transformer to bolster the existing one and the supply of new prepaid meters.
