Governor’s Cup: Lavun council Chairman applauds football team’s performance
The Council Chairman of Lavun local government area of Niger state, Hon. Mohammed Isah Kutigi has commended the performance of the football team representing the local government at this year’s Governor’s cup currently going on in Lapai.
The Council Chairman who spoke to sports journalists shortly after his team defeated Kontagora local government team by 3-1 on Wednesday morning, said he was highly impressed with the team’s performance so far.
“I am highly impress and overwhelm with the way and manner my boys played today. Their first match they draw with Katcha, they won Edati by 3-0 in the second match, and today it is 3-1, which I am very happy.
While wishing the team well as they progressed to the round of 16, the council chairman promised to continue to give them all his support, morally and financially.
He also appreciated the state Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umar Bago for granting approval for the staging of the tournament, and the Chairman of Niger State Football Association, Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh for his grassroot football development efforts in the state.
Hon. Isah Kutigi recalled his sponsorship of an inter-ward football championship for the 12 wards of Lavun local government, when he was state assembly member representing the local government. He also promised to replicate that as a Council Chairman.
While highlighting the importance of sports facilities in the development of sports, the council Chairman said they were working on upgrading the Kutigi township stadium. He said the council had already included the upgrade of the stadium in its 2025 budget, and that the Chairman’s cup of the local government will soon come up.
Also speaking, the local football council Chairman of Lavun local government, Danladi Abdulkadir disclosed that the council chairman had been solidly behind the team since the commencement of the tournament.
He disclosed that the council chairman was the first out of the 25 to pay for the feeding of the team upfront, adding that he has already given approval with cash support for the teams next three days feeding.
The Chairman has provided a new set of jersey, emblem with each player’s name for the team’s next round matches, and also given a ₦100,000 bonus to the team for their sterling performance in the ongoing Governor’s Cup. In his magnanimity also, he had motivated the Edati LG team with the sum of ₦30,000 despite their exit from the tournament.
