IGP Egbetokun Appoints Hamzat as New AIG for Zone 16 Command
AIG Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, has been appointed to lead the Zone 16 Command of the Nigerian Police Force, headquartered in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The appointment, made by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, follows the retirement of AIG Paul Alifa Omata.
This was announced in a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Emonena Gunn, on Tuesday in Yenagoa.
According to the statement, Hamzat, a native of Kwara State, joined the Nigeria Police Force as a cadet Assistant Superintendent on May 18, 1992.
He holds a degree in Sociology from the University of Ilorin, a Master’s in Conflict Management & Peace Studies from the University of Jos, and a PhD in Peace and Development Studies from the University of Ilorin.
The statement praised Hamzat as a seasoned officer and a distinguished fellow of the Defence College.
His career has seen him serve in various capacities within the police force, both nationally and internationally.
Hamzat’s commendable service includes roles in the United Nations Missions in Kosovo and Timor Leste.
Prior to his new assignment, he was the AIG in charge of the Counter Terrorism Unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
He has also served as the Commissioner of Police for Oyo State and the Border Patrol Force.
The statement called on residents of Bayelsa and Rivers states to support AIG Hamzat as he takes on his new role, bringing his wealth of experience and expertise to bear in ensuring effective policing in line with the IGP’s agenda.
