Niger state Min. Of environment to partner Hydro dams for effective service delivery.
Niger state ministry of environment and climate change has sought collaboration with management of Hydro Electric Dams towards averting any form of flood in the state.
The state Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Honorable Yakubu Muhammad Kolo, who made the request when he led staff of the ministry on a visit to four mainstream Dams in the state.
The commissioner maintained that the collaboration would enable the host communities feel the impacts of corporate social responsibility as well as promote the green economy initiative of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago.
Honorable Yakubu Kolo said the visit was to partner with management of the Dams to ensure that the communities in Dams environment benefits a lot from federal government intervention and to also sensitized the public expecially those in the riverine to relocate to flat land.
The state Commisioner of Environment and climates change Urged the management of Shiroro, Zungeru, Kainji and Jebba Dam to explore opportunities for collaboration on environmental sustainability and flood security as well as how the reservoir of the dams can be use for irrigation.
In their separate remarks Permanent secretary of the ministry Doctor Idris Usman Gbogan and His counterpart in the ministry of water resources and Dams development, Alhaji Akilu Musa Kuta as well as key directors of Environment said the visit is for the economy progress of the state.
Receiving the team on behalf of the Chief Operator Officer, Shiroro Dam, Uguchukwu Emmanuel Shuke, the General Manager Plant services Engineer Abubakar, said they released water in Such a way that it will not affect downstream dwellers negatively, reiterating that Shiroro dam operating for the past twenty years has never release water that will lead to flood in the Host communities, because they sensitized the residents before releasing the Water.
Similarly in his address,Plant Manager Zungeru Hydro Electric Dam, Alex Valerio said the management of Zungeru dams have data of the host communities in other to ensure that they benefits from the Dam operation, while also assuring partnership with state government.
The representative of the four dams commended the Niger state government’s proactive approach to agriculture and expressed the managements willingness to improve on other corporate social responsibilities and also come up with plans that will assist the climate agriculture initiative.
The visit is part of the Ministry’s initiative to tour all the four dams in the state.
The team were talking round to inspects the facilities around the mainstream and downstream of dams.
