FMC Bida reconstructs 70% of inherited structures in 3 years–MD

Dr Abubakar Usman, Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Bida, said his administration has reconstructed 70 per cent of infrastructure at the centre in the last three years.

Usman stated this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria in Bida on Friday.

 

According to him, the centre inherited colonial structures built in 1927.

“Recall that this place was originally hosting the defunct Bida general hospital that was built in 1927.

“We took it over in 1997 when the centre was established by the Federal Government,” he said.

According to Usman, a strength and weakness analysis was conducted when he assumed duty three years ago to assess the structures.

He said that most of the structures then badly needed reconstruction and restructuring.

 

Usman said that most of the wards at the centre had been reconstructed, upgraded and fully equipped.

“The medical ward one, and three were renovated, ward two was expanded from its present capacity of 12 beds to a 40- bed capacity.

”The emergency, children and antenatal wards have also been expanded and renovated,”he said.

He said that all the operating theaters at the centre have been upgraded and fully equipped.

Usman said that the new children emergency ward and trauma centre started from foundation have been completed.

The MD said that a patients relationship shed was also constructed, to enable patients relatives do their cocking, laundry services and sleep comfortable free of charge.

Usman said that same was done for the laboratories and Pharmacy Department among others.

He said that the General Out Patient Department (GOPD) in Lambata was reconstructed to meet Modern standard.

Usman said that the cottage hospital in Zungeru has also been expanded to meet the demands of the people.

He said that a new and well equipped administrative block, a new ward and operating theater were also built.

Usman further said that the new administrative block under construction at the permanent site, has reached 90 per cent completion.

“In the same vein, a level-three trauma centre which can stand as a hospital on it own has also reached 90 per cent completion.

 

“Similarly, the construction of a Doctors’ quarters has reached 70 per cent completion at the permanent site and it is our hope that these three structures will be completed before December this year.

Usman stated that ultramodern hospital equipment had been provided at the centre and had bolstered efficient and diligent services to the clients.

He said that efforts were on to improve customer relations as well as general staff welfare to boost their motivation.

Usman said that his administration has prioritise training, retraining, payment of salaries and allowances.(NAN)
