World Child Labour Day: FG, ILO sensitise state Niger residents on hazards of child labour

World Child Labour Day: FG, ILO sensitise state Niger residents on hazards of child labour

The Federal Ministry for Labour and Employment in collaboration with International Labour Organisation (ILO) and other agencies organised a road walk to sentise the public on the hazard of child labour in Niger state.

The Minister of Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mrs Nkiruka Onyejeocha, said the road walk was to commemorate the 2024 World Day Against Child Labour.

Onyeocha, who was represented by Hauwa Zakariya, Controller, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in Niger state, said the day was set aside to sensitise the public on the dangers associated with child labour.

The road walk which started at Obasanjo complex in Minna terminated at labour house.

The minister called on the general public to intensify to eradicate the menace and the need for stakeholders to join hands in the fight against child labour bedeviling the society.

“Our expectations is to see that all children are given the right to education,right to live,and right to recreation,” she said.

She disclosed that some communities had been identified for depriving children from going to school, adding that gatemen have been engaged to sensitise the parents.

She said the ministry would leave no stone unturn to enroll out-of-school children to school and engaged them to acquire skills.

She lauded Niger government and stakeholders involved in accelerating action for the elimination of child labour in the state.

In their separate remarks, Halima Ibrahim, from Federal Ministry of Mines and solid Minerals and Ibrahim Gana, Chairman, Trade Union in Niger, described child as a cancer that must be fought vigorously.
