A well designed borehole can stand side by side with pit latrine or suck away _ Prof Idris Ndaliman.

A professor of Geology with specialization in environmental hydro chemistry ,Federal University of Technology, minna, Professor Idris Ndaliman Abdullahi made this known to Nigeria Daily Post that it is wrong to dig borehole or well close to waste disposal system, noting that first transmission is from toilet to water, the second one is from water to man and the next stage is from man to man.
Professor Ndaliman said,According to World Health Organization, waste disposal is a source of concern to many as it caused diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever as well as apathitis A , due to consumption of contaminated water, the world body asserted that many resulted in the damage of kidney and heart
He disclosed that Nigerlites have boreholes,pit latrines and suckaways situated in the same yard which is not ideal for health.
Ndaliman Idris said people rely on under ground water more than the urban water supply scheme, they look for it in all forms and the challenges of urbanization is waste disposal ie human and solid waste dispal, human waste disposal is usually in toilets .
He gave another challenges as the rapid growth in population a case of minna , the state Capital adding that presence of water determines where man settles and a situation where one is forced to search for water else where such as river.
Professor Ndaliman then advised people to go for well ventilated and improved pit latrines or suck aways urging people to line up pit latrines with concretes and the only part open should be the bottom
He emphasized the need to conduct sample analysis every three months before drilling borehole .
He further called on those drilling borehole to collaborate with federal ministry of water resources in Minna for proper advise and to ascertain the purity of water in the area to avoid drinking conterminated water that can lead to so many diseases,he added..
