THE ESTABLISHMENT OF INFRASTRUCTURE SUPPORT FUND FOR STATES THE CASE OF NIGER STATE

President Tinubu must be commended for this bold initiative to cushion the effects of the petrol subsidy removal on the people. The States by the provisions of section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 CFRN must work the talk by ensuring that each state must prioritise their individual needs as their needs are not the same.

We in Niger State is faced with critical urgent need for the followings:

i-Reconstructions and Rehabilitations of roads.

ii-Sufficient transportation for inter state and intra state movements are necessary for Nigerlites.

iii-Health facilities needs quick attention at all levels.

iv-Attention on insecurities especially at the rural areas to boost farming.

v-General attitude of some Nigerlites to embrace the provisions of section 23 and 24 of the 1999 CFRN.

HOW TO SOLVE THESE:

i-The Government is to prioritize the reconstructions and rehabilitations of State roads because of its capitalistic nature.Rural roads must be identified and quickly addressed.

ii- Niger State should pay attention to township transportation of people from one point to another using buses. But must be very efficient. The NSTA must be rejuvenated for effectiveness.

iii-Hospitals to be well equipped both at every level. Effective and functional dispensaries with revolving funds be encouraged so as to keep them floating.

iv- So far the present administration is doing well in security but more attention must be paid to those Local Governments that bandits still ravaging.

v- Niger State must try to change the negative attitude in the way some Nigerlites behaves such as:
a-Their behaviour towards service to their State.

b-Non constant going to offices unless salary period is near.

c-Bad behaviours such as promotion of corruptions and likes.

d-Promotion of nepotism and ethnicity must be avoided.

e.Niger state to consider for the establishment of State Orientation Agency (SOA) to be headed by a DG to create more value awareness to people.

These and others that may be added by others are likely to cushion these negatives effects of fuel subsidy removal.Few weeks ago I tried to establish point in the whole of 25 LGA Councils as stopping point for the buses. This can be visited and improved upon for the internal movement of Nigerlites.

May we be guided.
