By Abubakar Hassan

The All Progressives Congress (APC) critical stakeholders in Mokwa local government area of Niger State has held a strategic meeting with a promise to deliver the party in every polling unit of the local government.

The meeting which was convened and chaired by the Deputy Governor of the state, Alh. Ahmed Mohammed Ketso, on Wednesday, at Kudu in Kusopa zone of the local government, had in attendance present and former ward chairmen of the party, present and past councillors, senior special advisers and special assistance to the state governor, representatives of different unions like NLC, NULGE and pensioners.

In his address at the occasion, Deputy Governor, Ahmed Ketso said it was a tradition of the party faithfuls, particularly the critical stakeholders in Mokwa to hold strategic meeting before every election and work towards delivering the party.

He promised that with the resolutions reached and the commitment of the members APC will win all the 187 polling units in Mokwa local government, adding that whenever they hold such kind of meeting before any election they always come out clean and victorious, hence the rationale behind convening the meeting.

Ahmed Ketso said they want to go into the election as one big and united family, saying as humans they were not perfect because perfection is God’s only attribute and appealed to the stakeholders to forgive one another for their mistakes in the interest of the party.

“No doubt we must have offended each other in one way or the other because we are not perfect, it is only God that is perfect. In politics we are bound to offend each other but it is also important to forgive one another so that we will move forward and for the interest of our party,” said the Deputy Governor.

Similarly, the senator representing Niger South senatorial district, Senator Muhammad Bima Enagi appreciated the people of Mokwa for their support and also appealed to them for forgiveness wherever he must have wronged them.

He also disclosed that his focus was now on the establishment of Federal University of Agriculture in Mokwa and that very soon a public hearing on the matter will be held, expressing optimism that approval will be gotten from Mr. President before he leaves office on May 29.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of Mokwa local government council, Comrade Jibrin Muregi said the essence of the meeting was to discuss the forthcoming general election that was around the corner and how to approach it as stakeholders of the ruling party.

He noted that there must be some stakeholders who were agrieved over one issue or the other or need clarification concerning an issue, saying the meeting was an avenue for resolving such issues and also appreciated the stakeholders for their warmth reception of the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Hon. Umar Mohammed Bago and his entourage during his campaign visit to Mokwa local government.

The council Chairman also observed that directly or indirectly the stakeholders must have benefitted from a programme initiated by the APC administration, especially the Social Intervention Programmes (SIPs) and that to sustain such programmes they need to work for the victory of the party in the general elections.

Other speakers at the meeting includes the zone A political adviser to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, Alh. Abdullahi Ndafogi, Alh. Aliyu Takuma, Barr. Adamu Usman and Hajiya Kaka Wabi among other stakeholders, where they called for the sustainance of the stakeholders meeting and urged all those present at the meeting to go back to their respective ward and polling units to canvass for votes for the party.

Part of the resolutions reached were that the meeting was timely and the three zones in the local government were well represented, and that the meeting should be stepped down to the ward and unit level, adding that members of the party at each unit should try as much as they can to persuade members of other opposition parties to join them.
