Gov. Bago Reiterates Commitment to Revitalizing Basic Education, Strengthens Partnership with UBEC.
The Executive Chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Dr. Ibrahim A. Liman, along with board members and the management team, made a formal visit to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in Abuja to bolster collaboration and improve institutional cooperation with the Commission’s leadership.
According to Idris Kolo, Public Relations Officer of NSUBEB, the visit provided Dr. Liman the opportunity to meet directly with UBEC Executive Secretary, Hajiya Aisha M. Garba, and her team. During discussions, he outlined the comprehensive reforms currently underway in Niger State’s basic education sector under the visionary leadership of Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago.
Dr. Liman highlighted the Governor’s strong directive that all efforts should be made to restore and advance basic education in the state, aiming to bring it back to its former prominence.
He described ongoing intervention projects for 2022/2023 that are in different stages of reconstruction and remodeling across the state. Additionally, the Governor has approved and released full funding for the 2024/2025 intervention year, contingent upon UBEC’s matching grant to ensure efficient and timely execution.
In her response, Hajiya Aisha M. Garba, UBEC’s Executive Secretary, thanked the visitors and congratulated Dr. Liman and his team on their appointments, noting that their credentials and experience demonstrate sound leadership judgment.
Ms. Garba also praised Niger State’s consistent excellence in educational development, often serving as a model for other states.
She called for ongoing collaboration and urged the Board to speed up the execution of its strategic action plan to enable prompt utilization of the new intervention funds.
To reinforce this renewed partnership, Governor Bago joined the meeting virtually, expressing satisfaction with the positive engagement between Niger State and UBEC.
He reaffirmed his government’s unwavering commitment to supporting NSUBEB and pledged continuous backing to sustain progress in the basic education sector.
The Governor reiterated that education remains a key part of his reform agenda and assured UBEC of Niger State’s readiness to maximize every intervention for the benefit of students and the state’s future.
Since taking office, the Bago administration has quickly addressed the backlog of the 2022 UBEC intervention, successfully accessed the 2023 intervention, and begun its implementation across the state.
This has been complemented by the release of the 2024/2025 funding, which is now awaiting UBEC’s matching contribution to advance basic education development in Niger State.
