Police Comply with Court Order, Suspend Enforcement of Tinted Glass Regulations
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has temporarily suspended enforcing the Tinted Glass Permit policy nationwide, following an interim order from a Federal High Court.
The police announced on December 15, 2025, that enforcement would resume on January 2, 2026, as part of efforts to improve public safety and internal security.
However, the NPF stated it was served with an interim order issued on December 17, 2025, in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, which restrains the force from continuing enforcement until the substantive case is heard and decided or the order is lifted.
In a statement released Thursday in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police said they had appeared in court, raised preliminary objections, and asked for the interim order to be lifted.
Hundeyin said the court postponed the case to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
“In strict compliance with the subsisting court order, the Nigeria Police Force has placed the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy on hold nationwide,” the statement said.
It quoted the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, as saying, “the Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in upholding the rule of law while discharging its primary mandate of protecting lives and property.”
According to the statement, “the Force will continue to deploy lawful, intelligence-driven strategies to address security challenges and safeguard public safety across the country.”
Hundeyin assured the public that, “further developments and clear guidance will be communicated following the court’s determination of the matter, in the interest of public order and national security.”
