NUJ Chairman Calls on Journalists in Niger State to Uphold Professionalism and Accountability
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council, Dr. Abu Nmodu, has urged journalists in the state to reaffirm their dedication to fulfilling their constitutional obligation of disseminating accurate and fact-based information to the public.
In his New Year message, Dr. Nmodu emphasized the importance of journalists maintaining vigilance in holding public officials accountable through comprehensive analysis and investigative journalism, particularly on matters concerning peaceful coexistence, security, moral responsibilities of citizens, and governance.
He acknowledged the positive relationship between journalists and government authorities but highlighted the necessity for public officials to be more accessible by responding promptly and constructively to media inquiries.
Furthermore, Dr. Nmodu commended Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for his commitment to digitizing state-owned media outlets, as outlined in his budget address. He urged the governor to follow through with concrete actions by allocating adequate funds to facilitate the successful implementation of these initiatives.
The NUJ chairman also challenged journalists within affiliated media organizations to demonstrate increased professionalism and dedication to justify government investments.
He commended journalists across the state for their steadfastness in reporting events over the past year and encouraged them to sustain their efforts to strengthen public trust in the media.
Dr. Nmodu assured members of his intent to build on the union’s achievements in the coming year and solicited their continued support and cooperation to elevate the NUJ’s endeavors.
Finally, he called for a strengthened partnership between NUJ members and security agencies, viewing them as collaborators in the shared goal of fostering a society proud of its progress.
