NANS Urges President Tinubu to Increase Funding for N-HYPPADEC to Boost Community Development Projects

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enhance budget allocations to the N-HYPPADEC commission, aiming to expand community intervention initiatives and promote socio-economic growth nationwide.
At a press conference held at the IBB Pen House in Minna, NANS Zone “C” Coordinator, Comrade Hussaini Jamilu Ebbo, emphasized that increased funding would enable N-HYPPADEC to execute more projects that benefit local communities.
Ebbo praised President Tinubu for reappointing Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwe as Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, viewing it as a strong signal of confidence in his leadership. He reaffirmed NANS’s commitment to collaborating with the government toward national development.
Highlighting recent achievements, Ebbo disclosed that a field assessment within four days led to the construction of classrooms, healthcare facilities, solar-powered boreholes, and streetlights, all contributing to improved living standards in hydroelectric zones.
The projects covered eight local government areas, including the construction of 120 two-bedroom houses in New Muregi, 80 units in Ketso, and 40 at Zazzaga resettlement community. Additionally, 140 hand pump boreholes and 128 solar-powered boreholes providing continuous water supply have been installed.
The report also detailed donations of life jackets valued at N7,500 in riverine areas, installation of 852 solar streetlights for security, planting of 10,000 economic trees, and water scheme rehabilitations in New Bussa and Bida, totaling over two billion naira.
Ebbo noted positive impacts on education through the provision of 52 classroom blocks with furniture and learning materials, enrollment of over 15,000 students into scholarship programs, and various skills acquisition initiatives for youth and women.
To ensure transparency and proper utilization of resources, NANS announced plans to monitor project implementation across all N-HYPPADEC catchment states through regular community visits.
He further highlighted President Tinubu’s focus on education, referencing the allocation of N1.6 trillion to TETFund, as evidence of the government’s dedication to advancing Nigeria’s educational sector.
