NAF Airstrikes Rescue Commander and Troops from ISWAP Ambush in Borno State
A joint military operation demonstrated effective air-ground coordination when Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft quickly intervened to rescue ground troops and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members after they were ambushed by ISWAP terrorists along the Damboa–Biu axis in Borno State, according to PRNigeria.
The operation commenced as ground troops, led by a Brigadier General, advanced into the area, unaware of a booby-trapped route. After an initial exchange of gunfire, additional terrorists emerged from multiple directions, prompting the Brigade Commander to order a tactical withdrawal.
Confronted with a numerically superior enemy, the Brigade Commander urgently requested air support. In response, various aircraft engaged in missions diverted to the scene to provide close air support.
The prompt air operation successfully dispersed the terrorists, effectively rescuing the military commander, his troops, and CJTF members. A defense intelligence source cited by PRNigeria indicated that the operation resulted in multiple terrorist fatalities.

The military recorded minimal casualties, highlighting the crucial role of air support in high-intensity counter-terrorism operations in the northeast. Meanwhile, the Air Force continues to patrol the airspace to prevent further ambushes or attacks in the region.
