Governor Umar Bago Joins Federal Govt. Delegation at the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil.

From Our Correspondent.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago is part of the Federal Government’s delegation at the 17th edition of the BRICS Summit, which is taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Governor Bago is attending the two-day event alongside selected governors and ministers. The Nigerian delegation is led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

During the summit, Governor Bago intends to seek international collaborations across various sectors and attract investors to Niger State.

President Tinubu is scheduled to deliver an address during a plenary session, highlighting Nigeria’s ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing its economy for greater global competitiveness.

Nigeria was formally admitted as the ninth BRICS partner country in January 2025, a status introduced at the 16th BRICS Summit in October 2024.

As a partner country, Nigeria can participate in BRICS meetings, summits, and initiatives, contributing to discussions and official documents.

Leaders from developing countries will discuss strategies for increasing cooperation while expressing concerns over Western dominance.

Nigeria’s partnership with BRICS is considered a significant development in the restructuring of global economic and political power.

BRICS was established in 2006, initially comprising Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining in 2010. In 2023, the organization expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates
