2027: PDP Joins Coalition Against Tinubu.

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have urged the party to join a proposed coalition aimed at ousting President Bola Tinubu from office in 2027.

In an invitation extended to dedicated members of the PDP, the leaders encourage the party to merge its entire structure into the coalition, creating a unified movement to remove President Tinubu.

The call was made in a communiqué issued after a special meeting of concerned leaders, which included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former President of the Senate David Bonaventure Mark. The meeting was held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

Present at the coalition meeting against Tinubu, chaired by Senator David Mark, were former Governor of Cross River State Liyel Imoke, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, former Party Chairman Uchenna Secondus, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, among others.

According to the communiqué, “The meeting encourages all well-meaning PDP members and other patriotic Nigerians to join the coalition.”

The PDP also tasked its coalition partners to focus on key national issues that affect the well-being of Nigerians. The communiqué stated, “All coalition partners must unite on the issues of national unity, democracy, national security, the national economy, and the political will to eradicate corruption embedded in our institutions.”

While submitting its structures to the coalition, the PDP instructed the coalition partners to develop strategies for winning elections, considering local and national peculiarities.

The decision to join the coalition came after the leaders considered the challenges faced by the PDP and the realities surrounding the current ruling party. This included input from former Governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu.

In the communiqué issued by the concerned past party leaders, it was noted: “Since our loss in the last presidential election and the exit of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as National Chairman, our beloved party has not been the same.”

The communiqué accused the ruling party of using state institutions to undermine democracy: “Vested interests from within, alongside the irresponsible actions of the APC-led federal government, have wreaked havoc on our democracy.”

It criticized PDP leadership for failing to adhere to the party’s Constitution, rules, and regulations, leading to chaos and a lack of discipline within the party.

The statement emphasized that the vision of the party’s founders, which aimed to restore Nigeria as a stable and united country—alongside its role as a key player on regional, continental, and global stages—has been lost. Consequently, Nigeria has become a diminished country and an embarrassment on the world stage.

The meeting also deliberated on issues such as democracy, national unity, national security, the economy, corruption, governance, and other pressing concerns facing the country.

The communiqué maintained that the APC government, which rose to power based on false and malicious propaganda promising to save Nigeria from the PDP, has become a disaster for the nation and must be voted out of power.

The statement concluded with a somber reflection: “All indices of development supporting the comfort and quality of life for citizens have collapsed, making life unbearable in Nigeria.

The PDP, once disciplined, capable, and historically significant in leading and saving Nigeria, has now become a shadow of its former self.

The relentless pressure exerted by the APC federal government through threats, blackmail, and patronage has caused elected officials to abandon the PDP.”
