Niger : Government Implements Nighttime Ban on Commercial Motorcycles and Tricycles in Minna.

In a decisive move to tackle the escalating security concerns in Minna, the Niger State Government has announced a temporary suspension of movement for commercial motorcycles and tricycles from 6 PM to 6 AM.
This decision was made public by Governor Umaru Bago during a critical stakeholders’ security meeting held at the Government House, which included traditional leaders and heads of security agencies.
Governor Bago emphasized that the suspension aims to address the rising security challenges within the State Capital. He reassured the public that medical emergencies would be exempted from this directive.
The Governor expressed his commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, reiterating that it is the government’s duty to ensure their security.
He urged District, Village, and Ward Heads to maintain proper documentation of individuals residing in their areas and warned that any properties found to be harboring criminals would face demolition. Properties involved in the sale of hard drugs would also be destroyed.
In addition, Governor Bago called for a concerted effort from the state’s security apparatus to crack down on criminal activities and their associated networks.
He cautioned parents to closely monitor their children, stating that anyone engaged in violent activities would face arrest and prosecution under the full extent of the law, as the government maintains a zero-tolerance stance towards thuggery.
The meeting gathered key figures, including Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba, Emir of Minna Alh Umar Faruk Bahaho, and various local leaders, all united in the effort to enhance security in the state.
Governor Bago highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in governance and urged all stakeholders to collaborate in addressing the pressing issue of insecurity.
