Tensions Rise as Northern Youth Plan Reprisal Attacks on Non-Indigenes Following Killing of 16 Hausa in Edo.

By Our Correspondent

Tensions are escalating in northern Nigeria as reports indicate that youths are planning reprisal attacks against non-indigenous communities in response to the brutal killing of 16 Hausa travelers in Uromi, Edo State.

The victims were on their way to Kano when they were attacked, sparking outrage and fears of further violence.

Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, has issued a strong warning against any form of retaliation.

Speaking after leading the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Kofar Mata Eid ground in Kano on Sunday, Sanusi urged the youth not to target innocent members of the non-indigenous community.

“We received information yesterday (Saturday evening) that youths in several areas are planning to launch reprisal attacks on non-indigenes after the Eid prayers. We instruct them not to carry out such attacks,” Sanusi stated.

He emphasized the need for the youth to respect the law, avoid taking matters into their own hands, and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

The Emir also called on traditional leaders to remain vigilant and help maintain peace within their communities.

Additionally, he appealed to the relevant authorities to investigate the attack on the 16 travelers, urging them to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that such a horrific act does not go unpunished.

Sanusi reminded Muslims to reflect on the lessons of Ramadan and avoid returning to sinful or wrongful actions, highlighting the importance of upholding integrity and compassion.

Currently, security forces in the region are monitoring the situation closely, amid concerns of potential unrest following the holiday.
