Stakeholders Call for Unity in Shiroro Local Government Amid Chairmanship Election Disputes

By Yahaya Zakka Minna

Recent developments in the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship election in Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State, have prompted several contenders to urge Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago to address perceived irregularities surrounding the consensus process conducted in Kuta, the local government headquarters.

The group, represented by spokesmen Yakubu Justice Kuta and Iliyasu Zarumai, claims that the process was undermined by the imposition of a candidate contrary to the consensus reached by stakeholders.

They allege manipulation of the consensus process by certain party elites who failed to uphold the earlier agreement.

During a press conference at the IBB Pen House in Minna, the spokesmen revealed that a consensus subcommittee initially endorsed three candidates: Audu Galadima, Salihu Madaki Beri, and Suleiman Dauda Chukuba, following a consensus process that zoned the chairmanship position to the Lakpma axis of the local government area.

According to the Spokespersons the candidate that enmerged as APC Aspirant is not among the three candidates initially cleared by the consensus subcommittee.

However, Professor Bashar Nuhu Tachi, a former Commissioner for Tertiary Education and a key stakeholder in Shiroro, disputed these claims, stating that the purported candidates were earlier rejected by the committee responsible for shortlisting the chairmanship contestants for consensus process.

He emphasized that before the consensus process commenced the, Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba convened all substantial stakeholders and candidates from both zones A and B to initiate dialogue.and Lakpma was given the chance to produce three candidates for the consensus process to foster unity in the local government area.

He disclosed that the person that enmerged is from Lakpma axis and not different area as earlier agreed upon by the stakeholders during the meeting with the Deputy governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba.

Tachi emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration within the Shiroro community, urging residents and the electorate to support the chosen candidate as a means of fostering growth and development of the area.

He appealed for an end to divisive practices, reminding stakeholders of the pressing security challenges facing the region and the necessity of collective action to tackle the issue for the benefit of all.

In closing, he called upon everyone in Shiroro to treat their differences as an opportunity for future successes, urging a commitment to brotherhood and cooperation for the advancement of the local government area as a whole
