APC Urges Tinubu to Declare a State of Emergency in Osun

By Our Correspondent

The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the state following reports of fatalities. In response, the Osun State government has rejected this call.

The state government accused the APC of attempting to achieve its objectives by deliberately inciting chaos within Osun.

National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, were both guests on Channels Television’s *Politics Today* on Monday.

When asked about potential solutions to the ongoing political crisis in Osun, Senator Basiru stated, “I suggest it may be necessary for the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency. The situation has escalated to the point where farmers are being attacked by uncontrollable PDP thugs.”

In contrast, Alimi dismissed the call for a state of emergency, asserting, “I urge our amiable president to reject the request from Honorable Bashiru and his associates. This is precisely what they aim for; they have intentionally caused strife in the state.

We will publish the names of our members who have been killed. No court of appeal reinstated them; we call on everyone to pursue peace.

At least two individuals were reported killed on Monday as reinstated local government chairmen and councilors across the state’s 30 local government councils returned to their respective headquarters, claiming to be enforcing a court ruling in accordance with the rule of law.

The attempted takeover led to resistance in areas such as Oshogbo, the state capital, Ikire, and Irewole local government areas, resulting in the death of one of the reinstated council chairmen, Remi Abbas.

The ruling PDP and the opposition APC are trading accusations over the crisis, with both parties claiming that their members have been targeted and killed.
