Nigerian Army Reaffirms Commitment to Cultural Preservation

From Our Reporter.

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its dedication to preserving its traditions and culture, particularly in fulfilling its mandate effectively.

This commitment was expressed by Brigadier General Taye Ahmed, Commander of the 18 Brigade of the Nigerian Army at Litani Barracks in Bida, during the 2024 West African Social Activities (WASA) event.

Brigadier General Ahmed stated that WASA is a long-standing cultural tradition within the Nigerian Army, designed to promote unity and celebrate the nation’s history.

The event featured traditional displays, showcasing local attire, cuisine, dances, and songs that highlight the country’s rich cultural heritage.

He noted that the annual event gathers officers, soldiers, and their families in a relaxed atmosphere to celebrate and mark the conclusion of the year’s activities.

Brigadier General Ahmed emphasized the army’s commitment to strengthening relationships between its personnel and host communities by promoting culture and traditions.

In his remarks, Retired Major Mohammed Garba commended the brigade for its outstanding performance, especially in fostering civil-military relationships.

He encouraged the general public to continue supporting the army and other security agencies to ensure their success.

The event also included cultural displays from various ethnic groups, including the Tiv, Igala, Igbo, and Nupe. Awards of excellence were presented to deserving soldiers.
