Etsu Nupe extols Liman Yakatun’s achievements at 35 on Imamship

By Mohammed Baba Busu

Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, has commended the Chief Imam of Kin Nupe, Sheikh Adamu Liman-Yakatun for being pious and committed to the peace, unity and development of Nupe kingdom, Niger and Nigeria in general.

The Etsu Nupe represented by Pharm. Yahaya Aliyu-Mayaki, Mayaki Nupe said this at a ceremony in Bida on Tuesday to mark the 35 years as Imam and 75 years of his anniversary as the Chief Imam of Kin Nupe.

According to Etsu Nupe, Liman-Yakatun, who has been the Chief Imam of Bida Central Mosque for the period, has remained resolutely committed to the peace and unity of kin Nupe through fervent prayers.

Alhaji Abubakar said that such prayers by the Chief Imam and other clerics had been sustaining the peace and unity of the Bida Emirate, Niger State and the country at large.

He described Liman-Yakatun as a selfless man of God

According to the Royal father, Liman-Yakatun will remain an asset to the kin Nupe and the state, as he has also been daily involved in the teaching and learning of the glorious Qur’an, the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad and other aspects of the Islamic religion.

“We will never forget this pious and selfless clergy whose Imamship has brought lasting peace to our emirate.

“While congratulating him for achieving this inviable feat, we would continue to cherish his invaluable contributions to the development of entire Bida Emirate,

“We will, therefore, continue to also pray to the Almighty Allah to grant him long life, for him to continue to do the good works he has been doing for us in good health and prosperity.

The Etsu Nupe also felicitated Liman-Yakatun on his recent appointment as the Chairman of the Niger State Imams Forum.

Abubakar stated that this was a testament to his hard work, dedication and unrelenting efforts towards the propagation of the religion of Islam in the state.

The royal father urged Muslims in his domain and the country at large to pray fervently for peaceful coexistence, stability, progress of Bida Emirate, Niger state and nation at large.

“Prayers during this period will help our leaders and the security agents to overcome all these devilish acts that are bedeviling our country,” he said.

He warned Islamic preachers against inciting comments that could provoke public disturbance.

Abubakar stressed that harmonious relationship among people should always be promoted to enhance peace, unity and progress of every community.

The traditional ruler urged the clerics to strive to be shining examples in their utterances and deeds at all times.

He appealed to wealthy Nigerians to always assist the less privileged in the society by providing them with food items and cash to ease their hardships.

“People should use their God-given wealth to assist the poor and the widows; this will go a long way to alleviate their sufferings during this challenging period.

Responding, an elated Sheikh Liman-Yakatun commended Etsu Nupe for sustaining moral support to him, saying that it had contributed alot to the success of all his activities.

Sheikh Liman-Yakatun also commended all the Imams in kin Nupe and the state as well as the scholars and the people for their support and prayers in ensuring peaceful coexistence of Muslim ummah in the society.

He also promised to continue to serve God and humanity by propagating the religion of Islam.

The Chief Imam also urged Muslims in the country to always have the fear of Almighty God in all their deeds and always remember that “everyone shall die and account for his deeds, good or bad, before God”.

According to him, if the Muslim faithful can embrace the noble teaching of the holy scripture (Qur’an) and teaching of Prophet Muhammad (PBH), the society “will be a better place on earth”.

Sheikh Liman-Yakatun noted that “only the fear of God Almighty and constant supplications to Him by all Muslim faithful could end the hardship and other misfortunes in the country”.

“We should always remember that everyone shall return to the Almighty God and account for his deeds, either good or bad, on the day of reckoning.

Hence, there is the need to ensure fairness and intermingling with one another in the most modest manner.

PCN Seals 486 Pharmacy Premises for Various Offences in Niger State.   In line with its mandate, the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed 486 premises for violating relevant regulations in Niger State. This action includes the closure of 69 pharmacies, 127 patent medicine stores, and 290 unlicensed shops. Dr. Suleiman S. Ciroma, the Head of Enforcement at the PCN headquarters, shared this information during a briefing for journalists at the PCN North Central Zonal office in Minna, following an inspection exercise in the state. He reported that one individual was arrested and will face prosecution for obstructing PCN inspectors while they performed their duties. The inspection focused on key areas, including the condition of premises, personnel, pharmaceutical practices, and ethical adherence to ensure safe and standard service delivery. During the exercise, a total of 672 premises were inspected, consisting of 136 pharmacies and 536 patent medicine stores across nine local government areas: Agaie, Bida, Tafa, Chanchaga, Lapai, Paikoro, Bosso, Suleja, and Gurara. Dr. Ciroma emphasized that this rigorous enforcement initiative will be carried out simultaneously across the country to ensure that Nigerians have access to safe medicines and that minimum quality assurance standards are met. The inspections revealed numerous regulatory violations, including the illegal operation of unlicensed premises, non-compliance with established regulations, unauthorized clinical practices, sales of controlled substances, and the improper training of apprentices. The Head of Enforcement encouraged the public to recognize genuine pharmacies and patent medicine vendors by looking for their current licenses prominently displayed within their premises.   He expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the citizens of Niger State during this successful operation.   The operation aims to eliminate unauthorized pharmaceutical establishments and unqualified practitioners, ultimately helping to reduce the incidence of substandard and falsified medical products in the state and throughout Nigeria.
