Niger Farmer Gov. Umar Bago to reposition judiciary,assures  adequate funding to curb corruption

Niger State Government has said it is taking necessary steps to address the issue of inadequate funding of the judicial sector in the state.

The Niger State Governor Farmer Governor Umar Mohammed.Bago stated this while declaring open the twenty twenty four Bar week Organised by the Minna branch of the Nigerian Bar Association held at Justice Idris Legbo International Conference Center minna.

farmer Governor Umar Bago who was represented at the occasion by the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Hon. Nasiru Mu’azu stated that lack of adequate funding of judiciary, corruption, delay in administration of Justice are some of the factors that hindered effectiveness performance of the judicial Sector in the state.

According to him,Niger state government is proposing series of reforms aimed at harmonising judicial Independence through allocating higher percentage of funds to the Judiciary ,adding that Farmer Governor Umaru Bago is planning to put up a body to address the issue of bribery and corruption as well as other forms of malpractices among judges and staff of the judiciary.

He then commanded the NBA for organizing the BAR week stressed that the task of Harmonizing judicial Independence and public confidence for sustainable Democracy required collective effort of all stakeholders.

ln her opening remarks,the state chief judge, Justice Halima lbrahim Andulmalik advised the association to use the forum to sensitise their members on the need to refrained from corruption and other forms of malpractices that will undermine the integrity of the legal Justice.

Halima Abdulmalik used the forum and announced that judiciary is making efforts to provide a conducive environment to ensure an effective administration of Justice in the state despite its meger financial resources.

The Chief Judge then commended the state NBA for their support to the judiciary.

ln his welcome address,the Chairman Minna branch of NBA, Barrister Mohammed Waziri Mentioned that the BAR week is organised annualy to bring lawyer together to share knowledge and exchange ideas among it’s members of the legal profession.

Barrister Waziri stated that the  week long event with a theme,  moving forward, Harmonizing judicial lndependence and Public Confidence For Sustainable Democracy in Nigeria as timely.
